Cal Hi ranks best baseball teams in the state

by admin

Cal Hi Sports has ranked the state’s top 20 high school baseball teams. The best teams, obviously, have the best records and that probably means more than just one pitching ace. The teams with the deepest staffs are usually the best. All these teams have good hitting. The only Empire team receiving mention is “on the bubble” Casa Grande at 6-2. If you play the “they beat so and so who … Read More »

Sacred Heart Cathedral and Salesian boys win state titles

by admin

The South won seven of the 10 games at last weekend’s high school state basketball championships at Arco Arena in Sacramento. The Northern California victories came from Sacred Heart Cathedral (boys) in Division III, Salesian of Richmond (boys) in Div. IV and St. Mary’s of Stockton (girls) in Div. III. Salesian, which played St. Mary’s of Berkeley in the NorCal finals (the team that eliminated Cardinal Newman from the playoffs), won in … Read More »

Ranking Empire baseball and softball teams

by admin

It’s quite not as easy ranking baseball and softball teams, but let’s take a shot. Sure it’s still early and remember Analy defeated Montgomery, 9-4, last weekend so here goes: 1. Analy 2. Montgomery 3. Rancho Cotate 4. Casa Grande 5. Cardinal Newman And in softball I’ll go with: 1. Montgomery 2. Rancho Cotate 3. Ukiah 4. Petaluma 5. Windsor And any information on small school baseball and softball, I’ll gladly accept

Newman and Analy final rankings

by admin

Some people have asked why Cardinal Newman gets the final No. 1 ranking in basketball and not Analy. Here’s my thinking: Analy did lose to Newman and Piner twice during the regular season. Yes, Analy got amazingly hot at the end of the season and it would have been great to see the Tigers go up against Piner and Newman in the playoffs. Analy was a much better team at the … Read More »

Analy wins its first NorCal game ever

by admin

The Analy Tigers are for real as they showed against Burlingame Tuesday night in front of probably the biggest crowd ever squeezed into the Anly Gym. Analy didn’t shoot well in the first half and Max Fujii had just two points, but Analy had a five-point lead and you had the feeling the Analy shooters would eventually find the mark. They did. Analy coach Brett Page jused his bench early and often … Read More »

Analy is joining some big boys in NorCals

by admin

Win or lose Friday night, the Analy boys basketball team is moving on to NorCals. Obviously, it’s better to be a section champ and maybe host a game or two in NorCals. One fairly strong source for high school basketball is the calpreps.com site where rankings are given in the state by division and overall. Check out Analy. The Tigers are ranked 20th in the state in Division III, but Bishop O’Dowd, … Read More »

How about those Analy Tigers and other playoff thoughts

by admin

Analy gets the nod for the best performance in an underdog role for its NCS Division III comeback win against No. 1 seed Bishop O’Dowd. The Tigers aren’t big, but they can shoot and obviously play some defense. Analy lost to Cardinal Newman twice and to Piner twice early in the season, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch with either of those teams now. Analy is on a roll and with … Read More »
